I absolutely LOVE my FireMark™ diamond. I've always liked Princess cut diamonds but my fiance didn't like them because they never look as good as ideal cut round diamonds. We met Russell and the Diamond Specialists staff at the very first wedding expo we attended. We didn't know much about diamonds but decided to attend his diamond education session. It was the best decision we ever made. Russell patiently explained the 4 C's of what to look for in a diamond. I ended up buying a beautiful custom made diamond ring for my fiancée Kara. My search for the perfect engagement ring started before I even stepped into a showroom. I searched the web. Looked at all the sites. Read up on all the information I could. Feeling confident, I visited a number of popular diamond retailers here in Hawaii. Their showrooms were large, with display cases full of diamond rings. I sat down with numerous sales persons eager to show me diamond after diamond. After a few stores it all became quite confusing and overwhelming.
After a few weeks of searching I came across The Diamond Specialists. I gave them a call and spoke with Russell. He told me to come in and he would be glad to help me find the right diamond. I visited the very next day preparing myself for another retail nightmare. But I was in for a surprise. Before I even looked at a single diamond Russell spent time educating me. From the 4Cs to certificates of authenticity. I thought my research on the web was sufficient but I was wrong. For Russell, selling me a diamond wasn't as important as giving me the knowledge and confidence so when I did purchase a diamond I knew I would be making the right choice.

For about a year, my fiancé and I shopped in Honolulu, Vegas and Colorado looking for the perfect ring; we just weren't satisfied. The Diamond Specialists came highly recommended by several of my friends, so we decided to drop by and meet with Russell Oshita. He patiently educated us about diamonds, informed us of how other retail stores over price their diamonds, and explained the trick behind the intense sales pitches. We told him our budget and that we preferred emerald or princess cut and he was very willing to work with us to find our perfect stone. Russell suggested a diamond that was a combination of both cuts - the Asscher cut. We were a little skeptical at first because we had never seen one in person, but when we got to see several stones for inspection we were quite surprised on how much we loved it! He recommended the best stone and we purchased it that day.

However, not one of them (and these included the mall stores in Ala Moana Center!) offered the vast amount of knowledge on diamonds as Russell. After almost two months of searching, we decided to give The Diamond Specialists a try. My fiancée and I sure got an education! Russell spent two hours showing us the differences of the 4 C’s and how each affected a diamond’s brilliance, and answered our many questions. Not once did he pressure us to buy a ring. "I can't say enough good things about Russell Oshita and the great staff at The Diamond Specialists. Last year, I decided to "take the plunge" and propose to my girlfriend. That meant getting the best diamond for my money.

I had been searching all around (internet, stores, jewelry shows) for a diamond for many months, but never found one that I liked, for a price I was willing to pay. Russell found several diamonds that he thought I might like and brought them in for me to inspect. I was surprised that the prices were reasonable. I bought one and started working with him to create a setting. I didn’t have any particular setting in mind so we chose a classic style to hold the solitaire.
After about a year, I was ready to re-set the ring in something with diamonds on the side. I picked out the style and told him what I wanted the ring to look like. Russell helped me pick out some matching stones for the center diamond. When you design your own setting, you first get a wax replica of the ring to inspect, to make sure it is what you want. Sometimes the picture in the magazine doesn’t look good on your finger. When I saw the first wax replica, it was too big and chunky looking, so I told him I didn’t like it. They modified it, and the second wax replica was still a little too big on the sides for my finger, so I told him I still didn’t like it. Russell patiently worked with me each time to see what I liked and what I didn’t like about each wax replica ring, and the third (and final!) wax replica was finally what I wanted. The entire staff at The Diamond Specialists is knowledgeable, professional and patient. I was impressed with the amount of time they spend with you to make sure everything is exactly what you want.

As with many newcomers to the diamond and wedding ring arena we knew what we kind of wanted for ourselves... but knew very basic things about choosing a quality diamond, ring design and manufacture.
