Carefully choose which company in Hawaii to purchase your diamond and rings from.
The purchase of engagement and bridal rings is important and extremely sentimental. Peace of mind is priceless.
Your search for these symbols of your love and commitment should begin with finding the retailer/dealer that you will trust to buy your diamond and rings from. Business sellers know much more about diamond quality, price, value and desirability than consumers do. Where sellers differ is in how they apply their knowledge and expertise. Knowledge can be applied to the consumers’ benefit or to their detriment.
As shared in the About Us page the principals of The Diamond Specialists had inside views of the thinking and business practices of many jewelry businesses here in Hawaii. Unfortunately, much of this exposure was profoundly negative.
While this insight occurred a few decades ago the same dichotomy exists. That is, does a seller compete fairly or unfairly for your purchase? At this time it is still the opinion of our principals that predatory behavior is rampant in the jewelry industry in Hawaii. There is a lack of ethics in certain companies in the industry in Hawaii that is shameful.
How do you filter out the predators? Your best strategy is to learn as much as possible about diamonds. Do the company and salesperson provide you with all the knowledge about diamonds and jewelry? Or do they only give you enough information for them to make a sale? Do they lie or cheat? They do if they show you bogus diamond grading laboratory certificates (EGL International, EGL Israel, EGL Turkey and so on) while pretending that all certificates are equal or “close” in standards? Do they show you a bogus and highly inflated appraisal? Do they show you diamonds with GIA certificates that have strong fluorescence, colored inclusions or is poorly cut and proportioned? These are all signs that you might take note of before moving on to visit another company.
